The agreement between the marine property management company, the municipalities of Herceg Novi and Tivat, which defines a special price list for ferry tickets for the citizens of these two municipalities, was signed today in Kamenari, and from tomorrow the citizens of Tivat and Herceg Novi will pay a ticket three euros.

The agreement was signed by the director of marine property management company Mladen Mikijelj and the presidents of Herceg Novi and Tivat municipalities Stevan Katić and Željko Komnenović.
Recalling that in recent months there have been many problems in the functioning of the ferry traffic, Katic pointed out that the situation is much better with the inclusion of the third ferry in the traffic.

“There are no more crowds, as you can see, so far the situation in this matter is really good and I think it will continue in the future. I want to thank Mr. Mikijelj and marine property management company and my colleague Komnenović for the good cooperation that we have have had until now and this is something that is certainly good that the citizens of Tivat and the citizens of Herceg Novi have these benefits, i.e. that they pay slightly lower ticket prices than others who are in transit through this narrow area of ours in the Bay of Kotor,” said Katic.

He pointed out that in the coming period, efforts will be made to connect Herceg Novi and Tivat as quickly as possible either by an underwater or submarine tunnel or bridge. As he said, two bridges or two underwater tunnels could be built so far from the money received by “Marine Transport”.

“Well, if we had built one underpass here to Lepetane, another from Rose to Herceg Novi, today we would have much faster and smoother traffic when it comes to the Bay of Kotor, because we all know that this highway was built in the 60s of the last century and that we need them expressways, bypasses, local bypasses and a much faster flow of traffic than it was in the period behind us,” Katic concluded.
Citizens of Herceg Novi and Tivat will have the opportunity to buy tickets on preferential terms, confirmed Mikijelj.

“The plan was to fill out one form in our branch in Lepetani, but through additional consultations with representatives of local self-governments, we came to a more favorable solution because the municipalities of Tivat and Herceg Novi made it possible for these requests to be submitted in their civil bureaus,” said Mikijelj.

This, as he explains, will satisfy the public interest, and in the coming months, citizens will receive quality service. Mikijelj said that in the past few days, since ticket collection on the ferry line began, the company has earned over 50,000 euros.

“This is the best indicator of what kind of monopoly we are talking about and what the state managed to put into private hands in a dubious way. In the past almost 20 years, over 200 million euros have gone into private pockets, from today the funds will go to all citizens of Montenegro.” he said.
Mikijelj pointed out that the ferry line Kamenari – Lepetane was returned to the state through the joint action of the local administrations of Herceg Novi and Tivat, the Government of Montenegro and marine property management company.

Komnenović pointed out that the coasts of Herceg Novi and Tivat are now closer and that, through taking over the ferry line and also by signing an agreement, they managed to jointly fight for the public interest.

“Now there is a transit period in which citizens will apply for more favorable ticket prices. What I can say is that the municipality of Tivat is working on creating “loyalty” cards that will cover this area as well as other areas, said Komnenović and pointed out that the main message with of today’s event that the public interest is defended and that numerous opportunities are opened for supporting local communities, and the first benefit is a cheaper ferry ticket,” said Komnenović.

Those interested in purchasing preferential tickets can exercise that right at the counter of the Municipality’s civic bureau, by filling out a specific form, and they will receive an answer the next day.
