Montenegro’s priority should be investment in transport infrastructure in order for the country to become a regional hub and strengthen its strategic position, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said. He also said that the project to complete the Bar-Boljare highway offers a serious opportunity for the participation of European investments.
He met with the president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud Basso, and the board of directors at the headquarters of that institution in London.
The President’s Information Service said that the topics of the discussion were Montenegro’s investment potential and economic priorities in the coming period.
– As a priority for Montenegro, I see investments in transport infrastructure in order for Montenegro to become a regional hub and strengthen its strategic position – said Milatović.
He said that he sees investing in the energy network and renewable sources as a state priority, as well as improving the business environment by strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises with financial sources that would provide them with growth and development, including the establishment of a credit-guarantee fund.
– Together with the Government that will be formed next week, I am committed to fulfilling these priorities that will ensure stable growth, convergence to the European standard as well as greater diversification and sustainability of the economic system – said Milatović.
He said that he expects that the EBRD will continue to support Montenegro on the road to development.
– Here I am referring to the importance of completing the remaining sections of the Bar-Boljari highway, a project of national interest, where I see a serious space for the participation of European investments, but also the realization of the Adriatic-Ionian highway and the reconstruction of the road route Podgorica-Sarajevo – added Milatović.
According to him, it is also important to strengthen the railway network and the port of Bar, investing in energy projects.
