The government, in a telephone session, has approved the National Tourist Organization (NTO) to allocate €510,000 from its account for incentive measures aimed at increasing tourist traffic from key markets through organized air transport.

The government expects these funds to be used for introducing new air routes connecting Montenegro to key markets, increasing flight frequencies on existing routes, or extending the flying season. This initiative will include joint marketing campaigns with tour operators over this and the coming years until the funds are fully utilized, as reported by Pobjeda.

Since 2013, NTO has maintained a dedicated account to support Montenegro’s air accessibility. Previous contributions from the Ministry responsible for tourism, Montenegro Airports, and other partners have been used to fulfill contractual obligations with airlines.

“As of 2021, all contracts with airlines have been fulfilled, and NTO has no outstanding debts related to these agreements,” states the government document.

Following the completion of these agreements, €510,290 remains in this account.

“Considering NTO’s legal obligations and its insufficient budget to execute activities within its mandate, we propose utilizing the remaining funds in the account to finance incentive programs aimed at boosting tourist traffic through organized air transport from key markets,” a government spokesperson emphasized.

Implementation of these incentives would involve tour operators introducing new flight routes linking Montenegro with key markets, increasing flight frequencies, or extending the flying season, thus enhancing the destination’s air accessibility.
