Montenegro’s foreign trade increased by 2.6% in January, with higher imports and lower exports

According to preliminary data from Montenegro’s Statistical Office (Monstat), the total foreign trade of goods in January amounted to 282.5 million EUR, which is a 2.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Monstat reported that exports were worth 43.3 million EUR, a decrease of 6.4% compared to the previous year. Imports totaled 239.2 million EUR, an increase of 4.5%.

“The import coverage by exports stood at 18.1%, which is lower than the 20.2% recorded in the same period last year,” the statement said. In the export structure, the most significant items were mineral fuels and lubricants, amounting to 17.8 million EUR, including 15.7 million EUR in electricity and other goods.

The main items in imports were machinery and transport equipment, totaling 59.4 million EUR, with motor vehicles accounting for 26 million EUR and other items.

The largest foreign trade partners in exports were Serbia with 9.1 million EUR, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 6.4 million EUR, and Switzerland with 4.9 million EUR.

The largest import partners were Serbia with 39.3 million EUR, China with 33.2 million EUR, and Germany with 22.2 million EUR.

The highest foreign trade exchange occurred with countries in the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and the European Union (EU).
