The total inflow of foreign direct investments (FDI) in Montenegro last year amounted to €889.80 million, an increase of 3.18% compared to the previous period, according to preliminary data from the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG).
The net inflow of FDI was €489.94 million, which is 12.99% higher than in 2023.
According to the data, equity investments accounted for €569.27 million, representing 63.98% of the total inflow.
Within the equity investments, the amount invested in companies and banks was €113.94 million, showing a growth of 19.60%, while investments in real estate amounted to €455.33 million, a decrease of 1.72%, the document states.
The inflow of FDI in the form of intercompany loans amounted to €290.84 million, or 32.69% of the total inflow, a 9.78% increase compared to the previous year.
The remaining 3.33%, or €29.69 million, relates to other investments, specifically the repatriation of investments from abroad, the document adds.
Last year, the largest amount of investment came from Serbia, totaling €118.2 million. Of this amount, the majority was invested in real estate, over €69 million. About €27.68 million was invested in local companies and banks, and €17.8 million was allocated to intercompany loans.
Russia ranked second, with its nationals investing around €100.18 million. Of this, €41.9 million was allocated to intercompany loans, €37.8 million went into real estate, and €20.4 million was invested in local companies and banks.
From Turkey, Montenegro received around €99.63 million in investments, with the largest portion, approximately €62 million, directed toward real estate. Intercompany loans accounted for €34.4 million, while €3.18 million was invested in local companies and banks.
German investors contributed €69.5 million, with the largest portion, €35.58 million, going into real estate. Switzerland also made a significant contribution, with €65.68 million, of which just over €30 million was invested in real estate.
The United States ranked high on the list, with total investments of €55.5 million, of which around €38 million was directed into real estate.
The total outflow of FDI in 2024 amounted to €399.86 million, a decrease of 6.74% compared to the previous year.
The outflow from resident investments abroad amounted to €92.30 million, while the withdrawal of funds by non-residents invested in Montenegro reached €307.56 million, the Central Bank data shows.
