Controversy surrounds UAE agreement: Unilateral deal and local rejection

The agreement with the United Arab Emirates was signed in violation of all principles, gentleman’s agreements, consultations and discussions, according to Ilir Čapuni, a member of the Albanian Alliance.

“It all started in a very one-sided manner. A space is leased for 99 years, and everything is decided via a WhatsApp group,” Čapuni commented on the case of Velika Plaža during the “Klub Aplus” show.

Čapuni stated that now “all eyes are on Ulcinj.”

“Helicopters fly over us twice a day, just as the Yugoslav Army used to do. It’s like a state of war. Not only were we unable to defend our rights, but we didn’t even have the opportunity to debate the matter,” Čapuni claimed.

According to Čapuni, the Municipality of Ulcinj is the biggest hero in this situation, as they unanimously decided to oppose the agreement.

“They dealt a slap to Montenegro. I don’t understand why the media didn’t cover this better. That’s why we’ll use all our leverage to channel our demands and disputes. One of those ways is by being in the government,” Čapuni said.

Čapuni believes that the state will struggle to follow any future developments if this agreement is strengthened and ratified.

“The pace at which this agreement was signed indicates that something is wrong. Something is being hidden, decisions are being rushed. I’m not suggesting corruption, but I do have doubts about everything else,” Čapuni concluded.
