Montenegro’s EU path supported by Italy, Business Forum planned for summer

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić concluded his first official visit to Rome with a meeting with the Vice President of the Italian Government and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, who reiterated Italy’s strong support for Montenegro’s European path and the overall progress of the country.

In a statement, it was announced that during the discussions with Italian President Giorgia Meloni yesterday and the meeting with Minister Tajani, it was agreed to hold a business forum in early summer. The participants emphasized the opportunities available, which should be seized to foster economic growth and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting also covered security issues in Europe, with a focus on the importance of Montenegro aligning with the European Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, particularly in the context of supporting Ukraine.

Spajić emphasized that Montenegro’s position is clear, stating that the country is a reliable, credible, and predictable partner that can be counted on, as noted in the statement.

Regarding the situation in the Western Balkans, the Prime Minister stressed that EU membership prospects and economic growth are stabilizing factors, with Montenegro aiming to join the EU during Italy’s presidency in early 2028.

The Italian Vice Prime Minister expressed full support for Montenegro’s ambitions, reaffirming that Italy will remain a strong ally on this path. Tajani also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Spajić to participate in the upcoming Italophonie event, the statement concluded.
