Montenegro advances renewable energy development with solar power plant launch and key investments in Nikšić

President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, visited the municipality of Nikšić, where he, along with local and energy sector leaders, inaugurated a new 1 MW solar power plant at the Nikšić steel plant. The facility, developed by EPCG and Solar Gradnja, marks part of a broader energy transformation in the region.

Mandić emphasized that Montenegro’s energy sector has the potential to drive economic and social development, calling the projects “real progress, not just plans.”

Nikšić Mayor Marko Kovačević highlighted the city’s transition into an energy hub through the fusion of industrial tradition and green technologies.

EPCG Chairman Milutin Đukanović outlined ongoing projects, including over 300 MW in solar capacity, the nearing completion of the 50 MW Gvozd wind park (with 20 MW more planned), and energy storage systems with a capacity of 240 MWh.

Hydropower modernization is also underway, including the planned addition of a 58 MW unit at HE Perućica and a tunnel connection between Krupac and Slano reservoirs.

Marina Jočić, Chairwoman of EPCG-Solar Gradnja, noted the company now employs over 500 workers and is expanding into solar carports with EV chargers.

The visit underscored Montenegro’s commitment to energy sovereignty, economic resilience, and environmental responsibility.
