Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, measured by purchasing power standards (PPS), in Montenegro reached 54% of the EU average last year, according to Eurostat’s first estimate.
Data from Monstat indicates that among EU member states, Luxembourg recorded the highest GDP per capita by PPS, at 242% of the EU average—more than twice the average.
Bulgaria holds the lowest position within the EU, with GDP per capita at 66% of the EU average.
In the regional context, according to Eurostat’s first estimate, Croatia leads with the highest GDP per capita by PPS at 77% of the EU average, while Montenegro ranks second at 54%.
Serbia stands at 51% of the EU average, North Macedonia at 42%, Albania at 37%, and Bosnia and Herzegovina at 35%.
Real individual consumption (RIC) per capita by PPS among EU countries ranged from 72% of the EU average in Hungary to 141% in Luxembourg.
While GDP per capita primarily reflects the level of economic activity, real individual consumption serves as an alternative indicator better suited to describe the material well-being of households.
