Berane–Bijelo Polje road reconstruction delayed until autumn due to tourist season

Although the reconstruction of the Berane–Bijelo Polje road was expected to be completed soon, there is no sign of its imminent completion. Traffic remains difficult, and local residents along this important route are growing impatient, suffering both material and health-related consequences.

The Transport Administration explains that the work will not be finished in August as initially planned due to the summer tourist season. Most notably, the final asphalt layer installation has been paused to prioritize tourism.

They expect construction to resume after mid to late September, which will likely extend the completion deadline to the end of the year. Despite the delay, there are currently no plans to impose penalties on the contractor.

Work has also been halted on the section from Slijepač Bridge to Ribarevine, partly due to local demands to address accompanying infrastructure issues. The municipality of Bijelo Polje is preparing documentation for sidewalk construction along that stretch.

Meanwhile, locals urge authorities to at least temporarily asphalt the road section as soon as possible for safer travel. Full-scale construction is expected to resume in September, meaning residents and tourists must wait longer for improved road conditions.
