From early May to August 3, Montenegro’s Tax Administration carried out 2,160 inspections to check the compliance of taxpayers’ operations. The inspections uncovered 423 violations, resulting in 556 misdemeanor charges and fines totaling €1.7 million.

Business suspension measures were imposed on 20 taxpayers, while €561,000 in fines—63% of the total—has already been collected. Most violations involved failing to record sales, exceeding cash register limits without depositing funds, employing unregistered workers, and operating without general tax registration.

Accommodation providers remain a priority for inspections. Last week alone, 28 entities were checked, with 11 found in breach of regulations, leading to €30,300 in fines.

The Tax Administration urged taxpayers to comply with laws and report income accurately to help ensure fair market conditions and combat the shadow economy. Citizens are encouraged to report irregularities via the 19707 hotline or the “Be Responsible” platform.
