Montenegro confronts rising inflation as citizens urge government intervention

Citizens in Montenegro are urging the government to take immediate action to curb rising prices of food and certain services, which continue to increase month by month. Inflation, driven by these price hikes, exceeded 4% in June, according to Monstat.

Consumer spending has risen for basic items such as fruit, bread, cereals, milk, cheese, and eggs. Many residents report that average salaries and even higher pensions are no longer sufficient to cover basic needs.

Public calls emphasize the need for state intervention, particularly to stabilize prices of essential goods like bread, milk, and sugar.

Government measures to limit prices, which were in place until the end of April, have not yet been resumed, leaving uncertainty about whether the program will continue later in the year. The lack of official response comes amid rising inflation, which Monstat reported reached 4.2% in June.
