The Government of Montenegro and Japanese energy company JERA will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the construction of an LNG terminal and a gas-fired power plant in Montenegro.
The memorandum marks a strategic step in bilateral relations, moving beyond traditional development and technical support to open opportunities for major infrastructure investments. Montenegro expects the partnership with JERA to bring technology transfer, knowledge, and best practices.
A comprehensive feasibility study will be conducted, covering technical, economic, financial, and regulatory aspects, ensuring credible and reliable results aligned with international standards and decarbonization policies.
The initiative aims to diversify Montenegro’s energy sources, strengthen supply security, and support the country’s decarbonization goals without additional burden on the state budget.
