Montenegro’s inflation surpasses eurozone, highlighting economic vulnerabilities

According to the latest MONSTAT data for August, inflation in Montenegro is more than twice as high as in Eurozone countries. Annual price increases include 22.7% for fruit, 15% for pharmaceuticals, 14% for oils and fats, and 24.1% for water supply, among others, stated Boris Mugoša, head of the SD parliamentary club and European Union representative.

Mugoša emphasized that this disproves government claims that inflation is solely imported and highlights structural vulnerabilities in Montenegro’s economy, including inadequate state response to price growth, weak competitiveness, illiquidity of small businesses, and economic measures lacking thorough analysis and long-term projections.
