Wizz Air has announced plans to open its 36th base in Podgorica, marking a major step in the airline’s expansion and a milestone for Montenegro’s aviation sector and economy.
Starting in March 2026, the airline will station two Airbus A321neo aircraft at Podgorica Airport and launch 14 new routes connecting the Montenegrin capital with major European cities, including Basel Mulhouse, Paris, Baden-Baden, Cologne, Hamburg, Rome, Maastricht, Barcelona, Ljubljana, Malmö, Gdańsk, Poznań, Rzeszów, and Wrocław.
This expansion will add one million additional seats per year, strengthen Podgorica’s role as a European air hub, and create around 80 direct and 700 indirect jobs.
Wizz Air CEO József Váradi said the company is committed to Montenegro’s future by expanding affordable travel options, supporting sustainable aviation, and boosting tourism and related industries.
The announcement follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Wizz Air and the Government of Montenegro, represented by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević, and Airports of Montenegro CEO Roko Tolić. The agreement aims to enhance air connectivity and promote Montenegro as a tourism and investment destination.
The Ministry of Tourism welcomed the decision, calling it a major step toward improving Montenegro’s international accessibility and extending the tourist season. The ministry emphasized that improved air connectivity is essential for the country’s sustainable tourism growth and competitiveness.
