In the fourth quarter of 2025, Montenegro’s Adriatic seaports reported a modest rise in cargo traffic, handling a total of 604,900 tonnes of goods. This figure represents an increase of 1.6 percent compared to the same quarter in 2024, as indicated by data from the national statistical office. The growth trend has been consistent throughout the year, with similar increases observed in earlier quarters.
The final quarter’s cargo volume revealed differing trends in imports and exports. Imports surged significantly, rising approximately 33 percent year-on-year to reach 433,400 tonnes. In contrast, exports saw a sharp decline, dropping by about 36 percent to 171,500 tonnes. This divergence highlights ongoing changes in trade dynamics and market demand.
Italy emerged as Montenegro’s largest trading partner for the quarter, with cargo throughput amounting to around 128,000 tonnes. Other notable trading partners included Egypt, Indonesia, Greece, Turkey, and Croatia.
Bar, Montenegro’s primary cargo port, continues to play a crucial role in maritime freight operations. Additionally, smaller ports such as Kotor, Risan, Tivat, and Zelenika contribute to the overall cargo throughput. However, passenger traffic through these Adriatic ports experienced a slight decline compared to the previous year, with 110,200 passengers recorded in Q4 2025 versus 114,900 in Q4 2024.
