EPCG Advances Solar Power Development at Kapino Polje

EPCG Solar Gradnja is currently engaged in the construction of ground-mounted solar power facilities with a total capacity of approximately 40 MW at Kapino Polje, located near Nikšić. This initiative is part of Montenegro’s efforts to enhance its renewable energy portfolio.

The construction is being executed in multiple phases. The support structures for the initial three sections, labeled L1, L2, and B1, have been completed, contributing a combined capacity of 20 MW. So far, around 4 MW of photovoltaic panels have been installed, with transformer stations and additional electrical equipment expected to follow shortly.

Plans are in place to commence work on the second 20 MW segment, referred to as B2. The steel structures for the solar panels are currently being produced at the Nikšić steelworks, which aligns with EPCG’s efforts to revitalize industrial operations at the former Željezara complex.

EPCG Solar Gradnja has previously installed over 11,000 rooftop systems under the Solari 3000+ and Solari 5000+ initiatives, achieving a total installed capacity of around 110 MW.

The Kapino Polje project marks a significant transition towards larger-scale ground-based solar energy generation. Additionally, EPCG is advancing solar projects at locations including the Krupac dam, Ozrinići, and Štedim, which collectively aim to enhance daytime electricity production across the region.

A key commercial consideration moving forward will involve ensuring that grid investments and resources for balancing and electricity storage are developed swiftly enough. This is crucial to accommodate the influx of new solar generation while mitigating risks associated with congestion and curtailment.
