Kolašin is progressing with a significant €20 million electricity transmission upgrade intended to enhance supply reliability for one of Montenegro’s rapidly developing mountain tourism and real estate sectors.
A municipal spatial-planning committee has approved the establishment of a working group tasked with developing a new 110 kV two-way electricity supply system and planning for the 110/35 kV Drijenak substation.
This initiative will also encompass the construction of the Kolašin-Mateševo transmission line, with the total investment projected at approximately €20 million, as outlined in the plans from the transmission system operator, CGES.
Currently, Kolašin is heavily dependent on electricity supplied from Mojkovac, which presents challenges as tourism, hotels, and residential projects continue to grow in the area.
The proposed infrastructure aims to establish a secondary supply route, thereby enhancing reliability for both the municipality and the Kolašin 1450 and Kolašin 1600 ski areas.
This investment is increasingly vital as the demand for electricity rises due to new hotel, apartment, and tourism developments in the broader Kolašin region.
Earlier in 2026, CGES had submitted a request for construction approval, and the recent local decision facilitates necessary planning and coordination ahead of implementation.
For potential investors, access to reliable electricity is becoming as crucial as road connectivity and tourism infrastructure in influencing the speed of future developments.
This project thus plays a significant commercial role: it not only represents a grid enhancement but also serves as essential infrastructure for advancing Kolašin’s tourism and real estate growth.
