Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović and North Macedonia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski discussed establishing a direct air link between their countries at a meeting on 30 October 2026. The route is to be operated by Montenegro’s national airline, Air Montenegro. The meeting focused on bilateral relations and connectivity.
Ivanović and Nikoloski described the proposed connection as a practical project that could benefit residents and businesses. They said direct air access would create opportunities for tourism exchanges, more economic activity and stronger links between business communities, as well as improving contact between people in the two countries.
The officials also said better accessibility was an important precondition for more dynamic cooperation in areas of shared interest. They described the air link as an additional connection between the countries’ institutions, economies and residents, not only as a transport service. They expect it to encourage more frequent visits, exchanges of experience and joint initiatives.
Ivanović said the countries’ relations were based on “mutual respect, trust and partnership”. He said their continued development contributed to regional stability, stronger connectivity and a shared European perspective. He added that good-neighbourly ties were reinforced by practical initiatives that create opportunities for residents, businesses and society.
After the meeting, the two deputy prime ministers held a joint news conference and discussed improvements to transport infrastructure. They said the air link could strengthen the content and quality of the bilateral partnership.
Montenegro’s delegation included Ambassador to North Macedonia Zoran Miljanić, advisers Milica Šljivančanin and Velimir Šljivančanin, Air Montenegro Board Chairman Tihomir Dragaš, and Vukadin Stojanović, executive director of national airline To Montenegro.
North Macedonia’s delegation comprised Nikoloski’s chief of staff Dimitar Mančev, Transport Ministry State Secretary Stefan Volkanovski, national tourism coordinator Akan Mahmut and deputy prime minister’s adviser Magdalena Ćurilov.
