Ryanair will drop its Podgorica-Berlin route for the summer 2027 season, one of seven routes the Irish low-cost airline is withdrawing across Montenegro, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The decision will end a direct air link between Montenegro’s capital and Germany’s capital that has operated for more than a decade.
Ryanair introduced the route on 4 September 2016 and operated it twice a week to Berlin’s then-Schönefeld airport. The company is also ending Berlin-Dubrovnik, Rijeka-Charleroi, Sarajevo-Thessaloniki, and Niš services to Corfu, Malta and Vienna for the same season.
The Podgorica cut coincides with a reduction in Ryanair’s Berlin presence. The airline closed its Berlin base in October, where it had seven aircraft, and has cited high airport charges and German aviation taxes as reasons for scaling back its operations in the city.
Ryanair previously forecast that its passenger numbers at the Berlin airport would fall by about 50% in 2027, from approximately 4.5 million to 2.2 million. The company’s route withdrawal is part of wider changes to its European network, while reducing connectivity from Podgorica.
Ryanair is also adding services in the region. It plans to start a Zadar-Friedrichshafen route on 3 May 2027, operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. The airline has scheduled the start of a Dubrovnik-Warsaw Modlin service for 29 March 2027; those are the only two new regional routes it has so far scheduled for next year.
The company also plans to expand its network from Sarajevo, where it is expected to announce additional destinations soon. The planned additions come alongside the summer 2027 route cuts, as Ryanair adjusts its offer across regional markets.
