Montenegro’s new-build apartment prices have reached a record 2,557 euros per square metre, Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) lawmaker Elvir Zvrko said, citing the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG). He called for measures to make housing more affordable and protect citizens’ purchasing power.

Zvrko said the CBCG had warned of indications that the real estate market was overvalued. He linked the price record to a question about whether wage growth could deliver access to housing for citizens.

“What does wage growth mean for citizens if they cannot afford a roof over their heads?” Zvrko asked. He said measures were needed to improve housing access for young people and families, protect tenants from uncontrolled rent increases and preserve the population’s real purchasing power.

“Promises are not enough for citizens. Measurable results are needed,” Zvrko said in messages posted on social network X. His proposals focused on housing affordability, rent increases and real purchasing power.
