The Government of Montenegro and the municipalities of Zeta and Tivat have agreed that any funds allocated to these municipalities as part of an airport concession deal will be strictly used for the implementation of capital projects in their territories.
This decision ensures that funds are dedicated to the development of local communities, properly distributed, and utilized to enhance infrastructure and other key sectors in these municipalities, the Prime Minister’s Office announced.
The agreement was made following a meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the mayors of Zeta and Tivat, Željko Komnenović and Mihailo Asanović. The aim is to improve the quality of life for citizens and create additional employment opportunities.
“First, we need to assess whether concessions will be awarded at all. What is certain is that we are aligned with the municipalities, as our goal is to accelerate the implementation of capital projects. In this context, we are ready to sign agreements and clearly define projects that will deliver the greatest benefits to citizens in the shortest possible time. Our intention is to fully meet the needs of local communities and offer the necessary support for their continued development,” said Prime Minister Spajić.
The mayors of Zeta and Tivat municipalities expressed their support for the approach, highlighting that concession funds represent an opportunity to launch a series of strategic projects in their areas.
“The most important thing for us is investing in infrastructure, ensuring projects are implemented dynamically and start as soon as possible. We are pleased that the Government has recognized the importance of making a final decision on this matter in cooperation with local governments, as this is the path to meeting the needs of our citizens,” said Mayor Komnenović of Tivat.
Mayor Asanović of Zeta similarly emphasized the importance of efficient fund management, focusing on projects that would bring direct benefits to Zeta’s citizens.
“Any option that benefits the citizens of Zeta is acceptable to us. As a municipality still developing administratively and infrastructurally, we are preparing several projects in which we want to invest potential funds,” Mayor Asanović stated.
The discussions also covered various current issues and the potential for further development and improvement of cooperation between central and local governments, aiming for the overall benefit of the citizens.
