Montenegro’s average net salary drops slightly in February, up 22% year-on-year

According to data from Monstat, the average net salary in Montenegro for February amounted to €1,000, reflecting a 0.2% decrease compared to January. However, on a year-over-year basis, the average net salary in February recorded a 22% increase compared to the same month in the previous year.

The average gross salary in Montenegro for February stood at nearly €1,200.

“Considering that consumer prices in February rose by 0.4% compared to January, it follows that real wages decreased by 0.6% over the same period,” the report stated.

In February, the average net salary saw an increase compared to the previous month in several sectors. The highest growth was recorded in information and communication (+8.8%), followed by electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (+6.2%), and professional, scientific, and technical activities (+5.5%). Public administration and defense, including compulsory social security, registered a 3.7% increase, while the manufacturing industry recorded a 3.1% rise. Mining and quarrying saw a 1.7% increase, arts, entertainment, and recreation grew by 1.4%, and the education sector experienced a 1.2% uptick.

Conversely, a decline in the average net salary was observed in various sectors. Real estate activities saw the sharpest drop (-7.5%), followed by transportation and storage (-4.8%), and healthcare and social protection (-4.2%). Administrative and support service activities decreased by 2.8%, while wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repairs, declined by 2.5%. Water supply and wastewater management recorded a 2.2% drop, while both agriculture, forestry, and fishing and construction saw a 2.0% decrease. Accommodation and food services declined by 1.9%, financial and insurance activities fell by 1.1%, and other service activities recorded a 1.0% reduction.
