Average salaries see modest growth in March 2025, but real wages decline slightly

In March 2025, the average salary before taxes and contributions in Montenegro was €1,000, according to data from the Statistical Office of Montenegro (Monstat), reflecting a 0.1% increase compared to February.

The average net salary in March saw a significant increase of 21.6% compared to the same month in the previous year.

The average gross salary in Montenegro in March was nearly €1,200.

“Considering that consumer prices in March rose by 0.3% compared to February, it follows that real wages in the same period experienced a slight decline of 0.2%,” the report states.

The average net wages increased across several sectors in March compared to the previous month, including real estate activities (17%), professional, scientific, and technical activities (4.6%), accommodation and food services (4.5%), financial and insurance activities (3.4%), water supply, waste management, and similar activities (2.5%), information and communications (1.9%), construction (1.8%), transportation and storage (1.5%), administrative and support service activities (0.4%), other service activities (0.3%), healthcare and social protection (0.2%), and agriculture, forestry, and fishing (0.1%).

However, some sectors saw a decrease in average net salaries in March compared to the previous month. These included electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (down by 5.2%), arts, entertainment, and recreation (down by 4.8%), mining and quarrying (down by 2.6%), manufacturing (down by 2.1%), public administration and defense, compulsory social security (down by 1.6%), wholesale and retail trade, motor vehicle repair, and motorcycle sales (down by 0.6%), and education (down by 0.2%).
