Bar is now recognized as one of the most developed municipalities in Montenegro, with significant economic potential and a rich cultural and historical heritage, announced Dušan Raičević, the president of the local government.
Today, Raičević met with the Ambassador of Canada to Montenegro, Michelle Cameron, who holds the position on a non-residential basis.
Raičević briefed Cameron on the development direction of Bar, highlighting that the city has evolved from a transit center, as it was during the former Yugoslavia, into an attractive tourist destination with rich natural resources and significant investments in high-category tourist complexes.
Cameron, as stated by the Municipality, noted that the strategic importance of Bar has been recognized, and it was particularly her pleasure to make this one of her first official visits after her appointment.
The meeting focused on the need for further development of quality infrastructure connections, which would contribute to overall economic growth and strengthen tourism, as well as the role of the Port of Bar as one of the key drivers of Montenegro’s economic development, enhancing trade flows and economic ties in the region.
The importance of decentralization and efficient governance, especially at the national level, was also discussed to enable local governments to develop in the best interests of their citizens.
The significance of the cooperation between Montenegro and Canada within the NATO alliance, which contributes to regional stability, was also emphasized.
Cameron thanked for the warm reception and expressed her readiness to make maximum efforts to improve cooperation through specific projects that will further develop and strengthen the ties between the two countries.
