Effective interest rates on loans drop slightly in March, Central Bank reports

According to data from the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG), the average weighted effective interest rate on all approved loans, encompassing all related costs, decreased by 0.02 percentage points in March compared to February, settling at 6.63%.

  • The average weighted nominal interest rate for the same period increased by 0.01 percentage points, reaching 6.16%, as stated in the CBCG Bulletin.

The effective interest rate on newly approved loans dropped by 0.07 percentage points in March to 7.43%, while the nominal rate declined by 0.03 percentage points to 6.71%.

For microcredit financial institutions (MFIs), the effective interest rate on total approved loans fell by 0.22 percentage points in March to 21.65%, with the nominal rate decreasing by 0.17 percentage points to 19.24%.

The interest rates for MFIs on newly approved loans also saw a decrease, with the effective rate dropping by 0.2 percentage points to 20.26% and the nominal rate by 0.11 percentage points to 18.09%.

Additionally, the average weighted effective interest rate on deposits rose by 0.02 percentage points in March to 0.27%.

The gap between active and passive interest rates in March was 6.36 percentage points, which is lower compared to February.
