The City of Cetinje has announced, for the third time, a call for conceptual design proposals for the second phase of the Kuk – Ivanova korita – Cetinje cable car, as no bids were submitted in previous attempts. The latest tender was opened on July 3, with the deadline for submissions expiring today at 9 a.m. The budget remains at up to 15,000 euros excluding VAT.
The existing Kotor – Lovćen cable car started commercial operations in August 2023. It runs from Dub near Kotor to Kuk on Mount Lovćen, at 1,350 meters altitude, with 48 gondolas and a 22-minute travel time in both directions. The system was built and is operated by the Leitner – Novi Volvox consortium.
Plans have long been made to extend the cable car from Kuk to Ivanova korita and further to Cetinje. A study from last year estimated the cost of this extension at 58.3 million euros (including VAT), concluding the project would be economically viable and sustainable.
In May 2024, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Cetinje Mayor Nikola Đurašković discussed advancing the cable car construction, with intentions to allocate budget funds for the project. However, the funds were not included in the 2024 budget revision, though the 2025 capital budget allocates 200,000 euros for preparatory documentation.
The goal set by local officials is to complete the cable car extension by May 2025, marking the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s renewed independence. The government has expressed full support and pledged funding through the capital budget.
According to the 2015 government concession act for the Kotor-Cetinje cable car project, the route is divided into three sections with four terminals: Dub, Kuk (mid-station), Ivanova korita (mid-station), and Cetinje, spanning about 15 kilometers in total.
