Concerns over economic exploitation and GDP manipulation in Montenegro

Nebojša Medojević, the leader of the PZP party, says that the northern region of Montenegro has been a base for raw material exploitation over the last 30 years.

“The same trend continues, nothing has changed. We no longer see people from DPS, but others, yet the same policy remains,” he stated.

Medojević also points out that it is problematic that the results of the census have been delayed for so long, which he believes indicates that something is wrong and corrupt.

“I have gathered evidence that the gross domestic product (GDP) figures are being falsified in Montenegro. I accuse Monstant of manipulating GDP figures by adjusting inventory values, a key macroeconomic parameter. In Montenegro, in 2023, this adjustment was 8 percent, compared to 9 percent in Serbia and 0.2 percent in Croatia. Here, this figure was inflated by 550 million euros. Given the structure of Montenegro’s economy, we know that there is no stock, neither in raw materials nor in finished products,” he explained.

The PZP leader also noted that only 15,500 people in Montenegro work in manufacturing industries, while 83,300 people receive salaries from the budget, plus an additional 10,000 employed in public enterprises.

“Instead of making radical cuts in the parasitic bureaucracy that wastes money and investing in sectors that create new value, the new government has continued the DPS’s policy of basing the core of Montenegro’s economy on consumption, which is personal and unproductive,” Medojević emphasized.
