Consumer prices increase by 2.1% year-over-year in December, with a 0.1% monthly drop

In December, the prices of goods and services for personal consumption, measured by the consumer price index, were on average 2.1% higher compared to the same month in 2023, according to data from the Statistical Office of Montenegro (Monstat). Consumer prices in December were 0.1% lower compared to November.

“The largest impact on the negative monthly inflation rate was caused by the decrease in prices in the groups of vegetables, fruits, shoes and other footwear, and other devices, items, and personal care products,” the statement said.

Consumer prices in 2024, compared to 2023, were on average 3.3% higher.

When looking at the main groups of goods and services by purpose of consumption, in December, compared to November, there was an increase in the groups of recreation and culture by 2.7%, transport by 1.4%, restaurants and hotels by 0.5%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.2%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, health, communications, and other goods and services by 0.1%.

A price decrease was recorded in the groups of food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.1% and clothing and footwear by 0.3%.

The prices of other products and services did not change significantly.
