The head of the DPS councillors’ group in the Capital City Assembly, Andrija Klikovac, stated that the Government is introducing a new VAT measure because “the treasury is empty and public debt keeps rising.” His comments came in response to reports that the Ministry of Finance plans to impose a 21% value-added tax on transactions involving construction land.

“Citizens now have to repay €1.1 billion in debt that PES and Spajić accumulated in just a few years,” Klikovac wrote on the social network X.

He also questioned whether MP Zdenka Popović would acknowledge that “the new VAT is bad for citizens but good for the Government.”

“P.S. – New levies are being introduced to fill budget gaps caused by the failed ‘Europe Now’ program,” Klikovac concluded.
