The dispute over Sveti Stefan has remained unresolved for years, but now, according to announcements, the world’s top tennis player Novak Djoković is expected to mediate and help resolve the issue.
According to Predrag Zečević, an economic analyst and journalist from Podgorica, Đoković is the only one capable of resolving what he described as the “deadlock situation” of the closed Sveti Stefan, which has been ongoing for four years.
“We have a win-win situation here, where Mr. Đoković, probably the greatest athlete in the history of the world—if not just tennis—meets Aman, which manages the Sveti Stefan hotel, the best tourism operator on the planet, and the operator of a chain of the most prestigious hotels,” Zečević said in an interview with RTS.
Đoković, who has roots in Montenegro, was invited as an ambassador to mediate and try to solve the problem, Zečević added. He hopes that the “Sveti Stefan” will finally open this year.
“There is no better ambassador, no company has promoted Montenegro better in history than Novak Đoković, and all of this has been done for free,” Zečević claimed.
He emphasized that this dispute has, among other things, halted two significant projects.
He also noted that resolving the issue would benefit everyone.
“If an agreement is reached, I assert as an economic analyst that Montenegro’s tourism revenue will increase by at least 15 percent. Mr. Novak Đoković, who has immense trust from all three sides—locals, Aman, and the Montenegrin government—can be the bridge that connects these irreconcilable differences, which have resulted in Montenegro’s first drop in tourism revenue in twenty years, by two to three percent,” Zečević said, as reported by RTS.
It is worth noting that arbitration between Aman and the Montenegrin government is scheduled to begin in May.
