Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Montenegro’s Electric Power Company (EPCG), emphasized that the energy sector cannot afford to delay decisions on energy transition and sustainable development. Speaking at a panel on Artificial Intelligence in Business during the International Business Forum in Sarajevo, he highlighted the vital responsibility of managing energy resources essential for society’s functioning.
Đukanović outlined three key strategic directions for EPCG: setting realistic energy production and consumption goals, improving transmission infrastructure by integrating renewable energy sources into the existing hydroelectric network, and developing battery systems crucial for a stable transition to renewables.
He stressed the importance of long-term, thoughtful planning and warned about the risks of neglecting infrastructure and lacking skilled professionals, particularly in software engineering and design. He noted that future energy management will require collaboration with artificial intelligence and robotics to optimize production and efficiency.
Đukanović called for a responsible, courageous, and smart approach to energy transition, emphasizing the need for synchronization among policy makers, businesses, local governments, and state institutions. Without coordinated efforts, he warned, progress will lag and innovative ideas may remain unrealized.
The forum also featured discussions on AI’s role in various sectors, with other experts highlighting its applications in diplomacy, wine industry, logistics, sales, and crisis management. EPCG’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, digitalization, and building a sustainable energy system aligned with global technological and environmental trends.
