EUR 9.25 million was collected through the auction of emission credits – more than 50% of the funds for the Solari project

Funds in the total amount of EUR 9.25 million were collected through the sale of emission credits at a public auction last year, and the Government made a decision on the allocation of these funds at the last session.

As announced, only Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), which manages a stationary plant that performs activities that emit gases with the greenhouse effect, applied to the public invitation of the Ministry of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism for the allocation of emission credits for the year 2022.

Funds in the total amount of EUR 9,255,775 were collected through the sale of emission credits at a public auction. The obtained funds were paid to the bank account of the Environmental Protection Fund (Eco-fund) and can be used for the protection and improvement of the environment, encouraging the construction of renewable energy sources and encouraging innovation in accordance with the Smart Specialization Strategy – according to the Government announcement.

As explained, the total amount of funds available to the Eco-Fund amounts to EUR 7.87 million, while the remaining part in the amount of EUR 1.39 million is profit tax.

The Government adopted the proposal of the Commission for the implementation of the auction to allocate EUR 4.1 million, or 52.11% of the funds, to encourage the construction of renewable energy sources, ie co-financing of the Solari 3000+ and 500+ project. For the protection and improvement of the environment, the Commission allocated around 2.66 million, i.e. 33.90% of funds, while for encouraging innovation in accordance with the Smart Specialization Strategy of Montenegro from 2019 to 2024, the Commission allocated 1.1 million EUR, i.e. 13.98% of funds – the Government also announced.

The decision contains a precise specification with the names of the projects that will be financed and the individual amounts.
