Exploring Montenegro: UK Media’s journey into culinary treasures and natural wonders

The National Tourism Organization (NTO) recently hosted a study visit for representatives from esteemed UK media outlets, including the British National Geographic Traveller, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Arcadia Magazine, and The Scotsman.

During their five-day visit to Montenegro from May 16th to May 20th, journalists had the opportunity to explore various tourist sites, gathering material for their upcoming articles.

Amy Bonifas, a journalist for Sainsbury’s Magazine, particularly enjoyed Montenegro’s diverse culinary offerings.

“As a food writer, I was eager to sample traditional Montenegrin dishes. The seafood, goat and NjeguÅ¡i cheese, fried dough, honey, and excellent wines offered such a delightful mix of flavors. I’ll always remember dining at the restaurant with the underwater wine cellar and the fascinating cave tour,” shared Bonifas.

She was equally captivated by Cetinje’s rich history and the stunning beauty of Boka Kotorska Bay.

“I’m already planning a return trip with my husband for hiking and rafting on the Tara River,” she added.

The NTO underscored the significance of media study visits for destination promotion.

“We’re thrilled to have hosted journalists from such influential media outlets, reaching over three million readers monthly. We aimed to showcase Montenegro’s most captivating attractions, offering inspiration for their articles. These study visits allow journalists to authentically experience the destination, enhancing their storytelling,” emphasized the NTO.

In addition to Amy Bonifas, Camil Sophie Bell-Davies from The Guardian also visited Montenegro in early May, further boosting the destination’s exposure in the UK market.

Bell-Davies explored Herceg Novi, the Luštica Peninsula, historic coastal towns, Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks, and Lovćen National Park, relishing a cable car ride from Kotor to Lovćen and a cruise on Lake Skadar.

“This spring visit was a delightful experience, from vibrant carnivals to serene hikes, hidden beaches, and majestic mountains. The old towns were enchanting, and Montenegro’s natural beauty is truly remarkable,” shared Bell-Davies.

Her visit is expected to contribute to elevating Montenegro’s profile as a sought-after tourist destination in the UK and beyond.

The study visits were made possible with the support of local tourist organizations, hotels, and attractions, demonstrating collaborative efforts to showcase Montenegro’s allure to a global audience.
