Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said that his focus is on strengthening economic cooperation and economic diplomacy between Montenegro and Italy.
The Presidential Information Service said that Milatović, as part of his official visit to Italy, met with representatives of the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Terna, with whom he discussed strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro (PKCG), Nina Drakić.
“Strengthening economic cooperation and economic diplomacy are in my focus and that is the main reason for my meeting with representatives of the Italian economy,” said Milatović.
He said that the geographical and cultural proximity of Montenegro and Italy are a natural basis for strengthening economic ties.
“It seems to me that after the construction of the underwater electric power cable, the economic cooperation between our countries has quieted down a bit, and I think it is the right time to revive and strengthen it both in the field of energy, infrastructure and tourism,” said Milatović at a meeting with representatives of the Union chambers of commerce.
He reminded that in the last year, an investment inflow of EUR 57 million from Italy was realized in Montenegro, while the exchange of goods between the two countries in the first half of 2023 amounted to EUR 129 million.
Milatović said that Montenegro will soon start a new infrastructural investment cycle with the continuation of the construction of the highway to Serbia and the beginning of the construction of the Adriatic-Ionian highway that will connect Montenegro from Croatia to Albania and further to Greece.
