Mirza Krnić from the movement Preokret criticized the government’s proposed amendments to the Law on Preventing Illegal Business, arguing that they target small entrepreneurs instead of tackling criminal structures and money laundering.
He said the changes risk suffocating young businesses at the start, adding new obstacles rather than offering tax relief, faster permits, or incentives for innovation. According to him, entrepreneurs already face long waits for patents or licenses, while being threatened with new fines and burdens.
Krnić pointed out that existing laws could already sanction fraud and irregularities, but authorities lack the capacity to enforce them. Instead of focusing on big players and the origin of capital, the government is imposing stricter rules on small businesses.
He concluded that the solution lies in stronger oversight of large companies and support for micro and small enterprises, which have proven to be reliable taxpayers and key to building a sustainable economy.
