Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro, Irena Radović, was a speaker at the 30th jubilee Euromoney conference for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), held in Vienna. This prestigious forum brought together more than 2,000 financial market leaders, government representatives, investors, and international institutions, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing key economic and financial issues in the region, according to the Central Bank of Montenegro.

Governor Radović spoke on the panel titled “Central Banks After the Storm,” where the challenges and opportunities facing central banks in the current economic environment were discussed. The topics included the challenges and achievements of central banks amid a complex geopolitical landscape and uncertainty, the effectiveness of monetary policy in managing inflation, the introduction of central bank digital currencies, and the importance of maintaining the independence of central monetary institutions.

During her presentation, Governor Radović reflected on Montenegro’s recent accession to SEPA, the country’s economic progress, and its prospects in the context of accelerated EU accession dynamics. She also highlighted the increasing pressure on central banks to expand their mandates in response to the need for adequate solutions to complex economic and social challenges.

“While it is crucial for central banks to adapt to changing circumstances, it is equally important to maintain a clear focus on their core responsibilities,” stated Governor Radović, adding that in the future, it will be crucial for central banks to balance expanded roles with the need to preserve their independence.
