Citizens of Montenegro do not have to pay taxes until they receive a decision on the property tax.
Zoran Tomić from the Administration of Local Public Revenues of the Capital City, regarding citizens’ complaints that they did not receive decisions on time, says that the procedure for making decisions on real estate tax is quite complex.
“We have huge databases, we received over 2.2 million data on land parcels from the Cadastre Administration alone, so it’s a big job,” Tomić said.
He stated that the Administration of Local Public Revenues of the Capital City made decisions in accordance with the law by April 30th.
“After that, a tender was conducted. We have an assurance from the post office that delivery of solutions will begin next week,” Tomić said.
He emphasized that no one has to pay taxes until they get a solution.
“If it happens after June 30th, then there will be a deadline of ten days after which it is mandatory to pay,” Tomić explained.
As he pointed out, last year was a specific situation because the Constitutional Court repealed a decree and the amendment of the Law had to be passed at the end of May, so last year’s decisions were passed in July.
Tomić stated that this year taxes will be significantly higher for individuals by around 24-25 percent.
“It happened because one of the main criteria when determining the tax is the average price of new housing in Montenegro. “According to Monstat, the average price is 1,383 euros per square meter,” said Tomić.
