In Montenegro, the unemployment rate in the second quarter is the lowest since it has been measured, announced the Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Goran Đurović.

“Increased economic activity and a good tourist season caused the need for a new workforce.” Montenegro is on the right path“, Đurović stated.

According to Monstat data, there were 321,600 active population in Montenegro in the second quarter of this year, of which 280,000 or 87.1 percent were employed.

Of the total number of active population, 41,600 or 12.9 percent are unemployed. Compared to the previous quarter and the same quarter last year, the number of employees increased by eight percent.

Of the total number of active population, 172,900 or 53.8 percent are men, and 148,700 or 46.2 percent are women.

The survey states that of the total number of employees, 151,200 or 54 percent are men, and 128,800 or 46 percent are women. Of the total number of unemployed, 21,700 or 52.2 percent are men, and 19,900 or 47.8 percent are women.

“The largest number of employees are people in the age group of 25 to 49 years, 152,000.” Also, the largest number of unemployed are people in the same age group, ie 26,700,” said Monstat.

The structure of employees according to sectors of activity shows that most of them are in the service sector – 77.5 percent, then in the sectors of non-agricultural activity, i.e. industry and construction – 17.9 percent, and in the sector of agriculture, forestry and fishing – 4.5 percent.
