In January, consumer prices, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), were on average 2.8% higher compared to the same month last year, according to data from Monstat.
Compared to December of the previous year, consumer prices in January increased by 1.2% on average.
“The greatest impact on the monthly inflation rate was caused by the rise in prices in the following groups: water supply, tobacco, milk, cheese and eggs, vegetables, meat, fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles,” the statement said.
In comparison to 2023, consumer prices on average were 3.3% higher in the past year.
Looking at the main groups of goods and services based on consumption purposes, in January compared to the previous month, there was an increase in the groups: alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.8%), recreation and culture (2.6%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (2.3%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.7%), furniture, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (1.3%), health (1%), and transport and other goods and services (0.6%).
A decrease in prices was observed in the clothing and footwear group (2.7%).
The prices of other goods and services did not change significantly.
