Shipping can be a generator of the development of the Montenegrin economy, assessed the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Filip Radulović, and the executive director of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) for Montenegro, Dalibor Pelević.
Radulović and Pelević agreed that it is necessary to continue with activities that will contribute to better infrastructure connections with the countries of the region.
“The better we develop the infrastructure in the hinterland of the Port of Bar, we will also improve its position on the market and create appropriate conditions for it to use its potential to a greater extent than was the case in the previous period. In this way, new loads will come to us, which will also lead to the presence of a larger number of shippers in the port“, said Radulović.
He, as announced by the Ministry, pointed out that the cooperation with the MSC company, in addition to the cooperation achieved through cargo traffic, is particularly significant, because it is a shipping company that employs more than 2.5 thousand seafarers from Montenegro.
Pelević announced that the improvement of the road and railway infrastructure is crucial for the further development of the Port of Bar.
“It is important to have the best possible connection with Serbia, but also with Bosnia and Herzegovina. I believe that it is of great importance to strengthen cooperation through the corridor Bar-Belgrade-Budapest”, said Pelević.
Bearing in mind that the director of the MSC also performs the function of deputy president of the Coordinating Committee for Transit Traffic, it was agreed to intensify the activities through the said Committee, with the support of the relevant Ministry.
The interlocutors expressed expectations that in this way the transit potential of Montenegro, as well as the potential of the Port of Bar, will be adequately valorized.
