Minister Novica Vuković met with Haoliang Xu, Acting Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, who is on an official visit to the Western Balkans to mark the 60th anniversary of UNDP, the Ministry of Finance announced.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Finance, the parties discussed the successful cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and UNDP to date, as well as future joint initiatives aimed at accelerating sustainable development, strengthening institutions, and improving the quality of life for citizens.
Minister Vuković expressed gratitude to UNDP for its continuous support of development projects in Montenegro, highlighting the importance of partnership in areas such as the green transition, digitalization, and inclusive social development. “Together with credible partners, we are building a stronger, economically resilient Montenegro that is implementing comprehensive reforms with the primary goal of improving living standards for all citizens,” he stated.
Acting UNDP Administrator Xu emphasized that the long-standing partnership between the Ministry of Finance and UNDP serves as a regional example of successful public finance collaboration. “Montenegro’s progress in modernizing its public finance system and aligning reforms with the EU accession process demonstrates the strength of national leadership combined with international support. The UNDP and Ministry of Finance project, implemented with the support of the Slovak Ministry of Finance, illustrates how public finance reforms can accelerate the 2030 Agenda and deliver long-term benefits to all citizens,” Xu noted.
During his visit to Montenegro, Acting Administrator Xu will meet with government officials and partners to reaffirm UNDP’s support for the government’s strategic reforms aimed at accelerating and enhancing the country’s sustainable development.
