Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić met with UNOPS Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Tim Lardner, and UNOPS representative for Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia, Michela Telatin. The meeting focused on digitalizing the tourism sector, emphasizing regional networking and diversifying the offer, particularly through the development of rural and active tourism.
An analysis of existing digital tools in tourism, conducted by the Ministry in cooperation with UNOPS, identified key challenges including administrative barriers, legislative restrictions, and insufficient digitalization.
The analysis highlighted the need for more efficient inter-institutional cooperation, reduction of the grey economy, administrative relief, and improved real-time data exchange. It also pointed to simplifying accommodation registration procedures and introducing a unified tourism information system to encourage legal business operations and improve the quality of tourism services.
Based on these findings, plans are underway to develop a centralized system for data recording and exchange to facilitate operations for all tourism entities and enhance transparency and efficiency in the sector.
Minister Kordić stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with UNOPS and other international institutions, noting that digitalization is a key direction for advancing and improving the tourism sector.
This collaboration is expected to significantly contribute to achieving the Ministry’s strategic goals and promote sustainable tourism development through digital transformation and regional connectivity.
