Work on the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant is progressing according to plan and entering its final phase, officials said during a meeting between Montenegro’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Admir Šahmanović, and EPCG management at the plant.

Key systems are largely completed: the flue gas channel is over 78 percent finished, the connection between the old and new water circulation systems is 97 percent complete, and chimney adaptations are on schedule for completion by mid-October. Boiler modernization is in its final phase, while generator and auxiliary equipment overhauls are ongoing to ensure long-term reliability.

The district heating project in Pljevlja is also advancing, with over 90 percent of the primary heat pipeline completed, promising immediate benefits for local residents.

EPCG Executive Director Ivan Bulatović emphasized the strategic importance of these projects, noting that the ecological reconstruction and modernization of the Pljevlja plant align with high environmental standards, secure the country’s energy system, and improve local air quality.

Minister Šahmanović highlighted the project as an example of successful collaboration between the state and EPCG, stressing that the plant and district heating will soon provide tangible benefits for residents and demonstrate how traditional capacities can meet European standards.

Additionally, the relocation of the Ćehotina River, part of the wider energy and environmental projects in Pljevlja, is 60 percent complete. Nemanja Laković, Executive Director of the Pljevlja Coal Mine, confirmed that the work is on schedule, ensuring both uninterrupted production and environmental protection.

These initiatives—thermal plant reconstruction, district heating, and river relocation—underscore Pljevlja’s role as a center for modern energy investments and responsible development in Montenegro.
