Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić stated at the Connectuj.me platform in Podgorica that Montenegro must use new technologies as a modern tool to raise its economic standard to a level fully equivalent to that of European Union countries. He expressed satisfaction that topics he had previously presented to the Montenegrin public, such as artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies, are increasingly being discussed within the regional context.

As positive examples of countries that recognized the important role cryptocurrencies play in the global economy, Spajić mentioned Japan, Germany, and the United States, describing the latter as one of the most regulated countries in this field.

He recalled that in 2023 the European Union adopted the MiCA regulation, the first document to regulate crypto assets and create conditions for companies to offer crypto services. He emphasized that Montenegro should soon adopt a law aligned with European standards to regulate this area.

When asked where he sees the greatest potential for progress in the Montenegrin economy, Spajić highlighted the need to develop the IT sector and encourage startups. He underlined that one of the first steps is to secure stable and affordable electricity, which he described as a key business input for data centers. According to him, this would be crucial for attracting the world’s most powerful IT companies, leading to highly paid jobs and a better quality of life for citizens.
