Montenegro and Bahrain sign first Memorandum of Understanding on science, innovation and technology cooperation

The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, is currently on a working visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, marking the first official visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During the visit, the first Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the two nations, according to a statement from the Government of Montenegro.

Prime Minister Spajić and the Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Vice President of the Tamkeen Fund, His Excellency Hamad Faisal Al Malki, signed the memorandum at the Tamkeen Fund headquarters in Manama. The agreement focuses on collaboration in the fields of science, innovation, and technology.

The memorandum, as stated by the Government, represents the first such agreement between the two countries and sets the framework for future cooperation. It aligns with Montenegro’s strategic development plans and vision for the coming period.

Following the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Spajić met with Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB), a think-tank dedicated to promoting foreign direct investments. The EDB representatives provided an overview of their activities aimed at developing the economy and shared results related to the diversification of economic activities.

The discussions also highlighted Bahrain’s policy on attracting skilled talent from abroad, which includes incentives for housing, education, healthcare, and social protection.

The EDB emphasized that the success and growth of Bahrain’s economy are heavily reliant on competitive business costs, a supportive business environment, digitalization, and the strengthening of public services. During the meeting, it was agreed that in order to achieve optimal results, it is essential to facilitate the fast and efficient establishment of companies by building direct connections and trust between institutions and investors.

The two sides also agreed that sustainable economic growth goes hand-in-hand with building long-term partnerships between the state and the private sector.

The meeting was attended by Minister Al Malki, along with Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro and Minister of Sustainable Development Nur Ali Al Khulaif.
