Montenegro’s Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, announced that on June 19, a public call was officially issued to select a contractor for the design and construction of an interstate bridge over the Tara River. The bridge will connect Šćepan Polje in Montenegro with Hum in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A joint site visit and meeting were held with officials from both countries, including the Minister of Transport of Republika Srpska, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and representatives from relevant institutions. Full political and technical commitment was reaffirmed for the implementation of this strategically important regional infrastructure project.
The bridge, 165 meters long and 11.2 meters wide, will be built based on a bilateral agreement signed in 2021 and ratified in 2024. Both countries will equally share the costs of construction, project design, supervision, and riverbed regulation.
Vukićević stated that if there are no appeals during the tender process, the contractor could be selected by October. Bosnia and Herzegovina will reconstruct 18 km of road from Foča to the bridge, while Montenegro will build 2.5 km of road leading to the future joint border crossing at Paklice.
She emphasized that the bridge is not only an infrastructure project but a symbol of regional cooperation and development. As part of the Trans-European Transport Network, it will enhance connectivity between Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the broader Western Balkans.
Additionally, Vukićević announced the upcoming completion of the Jasenovo Polje–Zaborje section and the planned reconstruction of the remaining 45 kilometers to the border, improving safety and comfort along the Podgorica–Šćepan Polje route.
