Montenegro and Croatia have good relations in tourism, but there is significant room for improvement, according to the respective ministers from both countries, Simonida Kordić and Tonči Glavina.

As stated by the Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro, Kordić and Glavina met on the sidelines of the “Travel & Adventure Show” in New York.

“Both Montenegro and Croatia are in the process of developing new legal frameworks in tourism, and given that we are neighboring countries and tourism-dependent, we discussed opportunities for operational cooperation to share knowledge and explore new ideas in line with European regulations,” the statement reads.

One of the key projects advocated by the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Montenegro is the digitalization of tourism management processes.

“This includes the registration of tourists, payment of accommodation and other taxes, fees, and contributions, as well as removing business barriers related to registration, categorization, and other procedures necessary to improve the sector and reduce the gray economy,” the Ministry said.

They noted that this would create conditions for a complete and accurate insight into the tourism sector, from the exact number of guests, market demographics, to more efficient administration.

Since 2016, Croatia has had a highly functional Evisitor system, and the experiences gained from its implementation are very valuable for Montenegro, which is entering such a project for the first time.

The Ministry also stated that Kordić met with representatives from international organizations, ministers from other countries, and entrepreneurs at the “New York Travel Show 2025,” where she discussed the importance of sustainable tourism, diversifying offerings, and attracting tourists from distant markets, such as the U.S.
