The governments of Montenegro and Kuwait are ready to renew and strengthen bilateral relations and establish efficient new forms of cooperation in tourism, energy, infrastructure and agriculture, as stated during a meeting between their Prime Ministers, Milojko Spajić and Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

“I am confident that the field of cooperation between our two friendly countries is vast. Montenegro has the potential for the more intensive development of tourism, especially health tourism, aspires to be a regional leader in renewable energy sources, and wants to develop agriculture and export its products to the Kuwaiti market. These are all areas where we can collaborate,” said Spajić.

Al-Sabah expressed a strong desire to renew relations and showed significant interest in investments in mutually beneficial projects, which the two sides will consider and discuss in the coming period.

He added that the Kuwaiti side would gladly explore investment opportunities in specific projects in Montenegro, emphasizing the need for governments and businesses to establish closer cooperation.

According to Spajić’s office, Montenegro is also interested in restoring the air route between Kuwait City and Tivat.

“This route, operated by the Kuwaiti airline Jazeera, was very successful from June to October 2023, and we are confident it would be successful again this year, especially given that Kuwaiti citizens do not require visas to enter Montenegro. The goal is to have the route operate for a much longer period during the year, not just during the summer tourist season,” Spajić said.

Al-Sabah highlighted the need for greater promotion of Montenegro in Kuwait, offering his assistance in this effort.

As Spajić noted, Montenegro is keen on attracting investments from the Gulf countries, as it has the potential to become an investment and tourism hub for the Western Balkans region.

Both parties agreed that the governments of Montenegro and Kuwait are ready to finally resolve the issue of Montenegro’s debt to Kuwait, which dates back to the period of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ).

Spajić and Al-Sabah concluded that the traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Kuwait will increasingly gain momentum and develop through concrete projects and initiatives in various sectors.
