In a meeting between the Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, and the Ambassador of Romania to Montenegro, Viorel Ardeleanu, discussions were held regarding ongoing projects within the Ministry of Transport, with a particular focus on the state of air traffic and the possibility of establishing a direct flight route between Podgorica and Bucharest.
“Currently, there is no direct air connection between Montenegro and Romania, despite the repeated emphasis of this need from both sides. The legal framework for establishing such a route exists, as air traffic operates under the ECAA multilateral agreement,” stated the Ministry of Transport.
To move forward with the next steps, it was agreed to hold a meeting between the transport ministers of Montenegro and Romania to “accelerate the procedure and ensure all conditions are met for the timely establishment of a direct route.”
The meeting concluded that, in addition to improving market accessibility and connectivity, the new route would contribute to a higher influx of tourists from Romania and further strengthen the economic cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Ardeleanu also extended an invitation to Minister Vukićević to visit Romania, and the agreed meeting of the relevant ministers will be organized as soon as possible, according to the statement.
